On Wednesday 27 March 2024 the inaugural conference of the thematic project SPOWIND (Spatial Planning Offshore Wind) was held in Rome, at the ‘Luigi Piccinato’ hall of the Department of Planning, Design, and Technology of Architecture at La Sapienza University. Funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Green Living Areas program, SPOWIND aims to develop a WebGIS tool for maritime spatial planning and the exploitation of renewable marine energy, in addition to analyzing the main offshore wind technologies and energy transfer solutions such as power-to-x.

Moreover, the project’s goal is to promote transnational cooperation among Mediterranean Basin countries and the mutual exchange of information and data among universities, companies, and public entities, to support and encourage the development of renewable marine energies.

SPOWIND, coordinated by the MOREnergy lab of the Polytechnic University of Turin, involves La Sapienza University of Rome, the Institute of Communication & Computer Systems “ICCS” (Greece), the University of Cyprus, the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (Croatia), the Environment Programme (Montenegro), the Centre for New Energy Technologies EDP (Portugal), and the National Agency of Natural Resources (Albania).

Among the associated partners are the Department of Extra-Regional Affairs of the Sicily Region, the Association of the Mediterranean Transmission System Operators (Med-TSO), the National Wind Energy Association (ANEV), the Business Innovation Center of Valencia (Spain), the Institution Regional Energy Agency Kvarner (Croatia), and the Ministry of Energy and Mining (Montenegro).
