The second national workshop within the Interreg Euro-MED SPOWIND project — dedicated to advancing the development of offshore wind energy in the region — was successfully held in Croatia and Montenegro, with additional participants joining online. The event was jointly hosted by Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) and ENVPRO, in cooperation with members of the SPOWIND consortium.
Participants were introduced to the Interreg Euro-MED SPOWIND WebGIS platform – an innovative tool designed for mapping and assessing the potential of offshore wind farms.
Sapienza University of Rome presented advanced energy transmission solutions, while Politecnico di Torino demonstrated the WebGIS tool and shared country-specific case studies.
The workshop also featured an overview of the legal and regulatory framework for offshore wind development in Croatia and Montenegro.
The event concluded with an engaging panel discussion on the future of offshore wind in Croatia, followed by an Open Day showcasing live demonstrations of the WebGIS platform.
Key takeaway:
Survey results from participants clearly highlighted that stronger cross-sector collaboration is crucial for the successful development of offshore wind — involving the energy, transport, tourism, fisheries, environmental protection, and public administration sectors. Only through continuous dialogue, knowledge exchange, and joint action can the full potential of offshore wind energy in the Adriatic region be achieved.
