Poster at IEEE PowerTech 2025 – Offshore Wind Grid Impact Study

04/07/2025

At the IEEE PowerTech 2025 conference in Kiel, Germany, a paper co-authored by Prof. Nikos D. Hatziargyriou was presented as part of SPOWIND’s technical work.

Paper Title: “A Simulation-Based Framework for Assessing the Transmission System Impact of Offshore Wind Penetration in Europe Using Open-Source Data”

The paper describes a Python-based modeling framework that uses open-source data (PyPSA-Eur) to simulate and analyze how offshore wind integration affects national transmission systems. A case study on a 1 GW offshore wind farm in Greece was included to illustrate potential changes in power flows and network utilization.

This work is part of Work Package 1 (WP1) of the SPOWIND project, focused on modeling and planning tools for offshore wind deployment in the Mediterranean.
