What we do

Support the uptake of new offshore wind technologies, such as floating wind turbines, in the Mediterranean Sea. To Enhance coordination between policymakers and raise awareness of Quadruple Helix collaboration. Increase institutional capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), municipalities, and Transmission Service Operators (TSO) by adopting the WebGIS tool. Improve the quality of results by involving research institutions and universities.

Activities

WP 1. Data collection, synergy and consolidation.
Gather MSP data (7 repositories: metocean, various exclusion zones, maritime use, transmission, regulatory) from open access database by the end of WP1, to be assembled and implemented within the WebGIS tool in NETcdf format for the whole Med basin.

WP 2. Spatial planning of offshore wind farms.
Support local and regional public authorities (e.g. municipalities) and industry with methods and WebGIS tool for MSP of offshore wind projects in Med basin. Provide maritime datahub and event organiser tool for transnational cooperation.

WP 3. Energy carriers and transfer.
Provide methods and comparative assessment strategies of energy transfer and carriers solutions (e.g. AC/DC grid connections, power-to-X) for offshore wind farms which can be adopted by Transmission Service Operators (e.g. Med-TSO, Terna).

WP 4. WebGIS assessment and results amplification.
Facilitate exploitation of project results involving quadruple Helix evaluation of the WebGIS tool for MSP purposes (e.g. suitability for feasibility studies). Improve institutional capacity with workshops and public engagement (open days).
